About Olivabot
Olivabot B.V. is a Dutch company in Amsterdam. We take a problem and work out what can be built.
What we do
- Research and development — our own experiments, including Gibbon Bot, Basil Bot, and bachelor projects with universities, and the same kind of work for someone else’s problem
- Feasibility studies — a look at whether an idea can work, before anyone builds it
- Prototypes — a first version, enough to learn from
- Consulting — a conversation, then a written note on what to do next
Work with us
Bring the problem. A study, a prototype, or a consult, depending on where it is. Work is remote only from a laptop, across the EU, and invoiced from a Dutch BV.
Email services@olivabot.com. See contact, services, or what we built for Madglove and Mycofarming.
Research
Gibbon Bot is a robot bio-inspired by the gibbon — made for trees, not walking on two legs. It does not work yet. We have been developing it in the lab since May 2025. In a few years, if funding allows and the research progresses, we might put it on the market. If we can make it work, the jobs we want it to do are maintenance, fruit picking, pruning, inspection, hail nets, and monitoring in groves, orchards, and forests.
Basil Bot is a 3D-printed 4-axis arm with a cheap RGB camera. Marin Marian’s master’s thesis in AI at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, supervised by Tony Currà, who built the hardware. The goal was to detect basil leaves and cut them.
In 2025 Tony Currà assigned and supervised bachelor projects for twelve Mechanical Engineering students on the joint VU Amsterdam and University of Twente programme. The work was at DLAB. Their papers, their names.
We also bought a DJI Mavic 3M and flew multispectral surveys over groves and orchards. The maps are precise. We sold the aircraft.
VU campus
Olivabot started at DLAB, Demonstrator Lab Amsterdam — the incubator of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. They helped with office space, materials for prototyping, and business support.
We later moved to VU StartHub, the startup pavilion on the same campus. That is our business address: De Boelelaan 1095a, 1081 HV Amsterdam. We have always been in the VU Amsterdam entrepreneurial environment.
